Learn To Fly by TheFantaSim Learn To Fly by TheFantaSim
The current challenge at #ManipulateThis is called "Manip-The-Lyrics", and we're to take one of 5 song lyrics to interpret in a design. For my first entry I decided to do Paul McCartney's "Blackbird".

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life you were only waiting for this moment to arise"

If you want to know the meaning behind the words, you can look it up on the web. The meaning behind my deviation? Well, I want to leave that up to you. ;)

I love the background on this and the stock choices interpret the lyrics wonderfully. I also love what you did with the wings - awesome job!

Well this screams of freedom from opression....and it is quite a patriotic piece. The fact that you choose the stars and stripes flag in the background makes the image that little bit more powerful. A very emotive piece with a very good choice of other stock, I wish you all the best in the challenge :iconnewhugplz:

I wasn't sure if I should put the flag in or not, but I then I realized that it didn't have to be a "perfect looking" flag to get the message across. So I used the "oil brush" to get that loose look. Thanks for noticing. :)

I always submit under Level 4, even when I don't feel like my deviation is up to par. :)

I really like this. I don't know if it's the subtle play on words (using a black man with regards to a song called "Blackbird") or just the overall feel, but this just works. It's not a scene, but it still tells a story.

I also dig how you used those wings at his head instead of on his back like most people would. Very cool. :)

Blackbird is actually a metaphor for Black women...I just wanted to go a different direction with it, more of the way I "see" the words.

And the wings refer to the "broken wings". Thanks so much for noticing.

And thanks so much for commenting. I appreciate what you have to say. :D
