GROUP NEWS

Hello Members!
We are going to have an activity for the first two weeks of this month. It's called "Light /Shadows And Depth".

This short activity will help you with two things:
Bullet; White Placing objects, people, and other stock all going in the same direction with the main light source.
Bullet; White Practice getting the since of Space and Depth into your photomanipulations.

How you handle light and shadow, and create depth, helps your photomanipulatieons look more realistic.

This Activity Is Really Meant For Beginning And Intertermediate Skilled Members, But Truthfully, In Our Last Contest, I Saw Advance Members Making These Errors. So, Read Over What's Below And See If You Could Use Some Pointers.

I hope many of you decide to join me on this activity.

Everyone who participates will receive 25 points and some exclusive stock.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

Bullet; White We're Going To Create One Landscape Scene AND One Interior Scene.

Bullet; White I have cut out stock that you can use for the landscape; also,

Bullet; White We are using any object stock from affiliate Jean52 and YBsilon-Stock for the room;

Bullet; White ANY stock of your choice to complete the landscape.

Besides what I write below, you can also refer to these tutorials and walk throughs:

LIGHT AND SHADOW

The problem that I see a lot in photomanipulations, no matter how good the execution is, is the misdirection of the light sourse.

Bullet; Blue Indoor light can come from many directions. Take into consideration light coming in from one or more open window,
candles, table lamps and floor lamps.

Bullet; Blue However, Outdoor light can only come from the Sun or the Moon. EXCEPTION: If there is artificial light like lamps or flashlight, then the light source
can be multiple like it can be indoors.

ALWAYS LET YOUR BACKGROUND HELP YOU ESTABLISH YOUR LIGHT SOURCE.

For example this landscape deviation has two light sources. The light from the Sun is coming from the right,
but there is light hitting the horse from the left.

WRONG!!

Light by TheFantaSim

A simple solution would be to turn the horse to face the opposite direction.

Bullet; White Of Course, There Is Always Shadow On The Opposite Side Of Light.

SPACE AND DEPTH

In accurate possitioning of models and objects in your photomanipulation can make your image look awkward and odd. Of course, if you want it to look awkward and odd, that is a comepleted different story!/b>

Bullet; Blue Ojbects in the nearest foreground should be the tallest and biggest in the picture plane.

Bullet; White If the object or model in the nearest foreground isn't the largest, and something behind is standing taller than that object or model, it can make the object or model look like its/they are in a hole.

RIGHT!!!

INSTRUCTIONS

FOR LANDSCAPE:

Bullet; White Choose any landscape you want. It can be a premade.

Bullet; White Choose any combination of model and object stocks. You need three.

Bullet; White Place one stock in the Nearest Foreground, one stock in the Middle Ground, and one stock in the Background.

Bullet; White Then place extra stock into your Landscape: in the air, on the ground, to complete your image.

Bullet; White Using texture(s) on a low to medium Opacity as an Overlay, Screen, or Multiply will help pull all of the stock together so that it looks like one image, not an image with a bunch of photos pasted on it.

Pic1 by TheFantaSim

Here I have the model in the nearest foreground and I decided to use the cat as one of my extra stock. Notice that they do not look too skinny? Be very careful when adjusting the size of your stock.

Pic2 by TheFantaSim

This is my completed image for the sample.  The man is in the Middle ground, the eagle in the sky is in the Background.  Notice how blurry they look compare to the woman and the cat.

I added some birds between the man and the cat. They have a little more detail.

This way the mind is not confusued. It knows where things are in space because of size and detail.

(Oooooops!!!!! I made a boo boo when I was adjusting the background for the depth. the background should blend better than I have it, but I didn't have time to fix it. I know! Shame on me!!!)

            FOR INTERIOR

Bullet; White Choose any Interior  you want. It can be a premade.

Bullet; White As for the Landscape, choose any any combination of model or object stock. You need three.

Bullet; White Just like for the Landscape, place one stock in the Nearest Foreground, one stock in the Middle Ground, and one stock in the Background.

Bullet; White Then place extra stock into your Interior: above, on the floor, on a table top,  to complete your image. Please use stock from these two affiliate stock providers.

Bullet; White Using texture(s) on a low to medium Opacity as an Overlay, Screen, or Multiply will help pull all of the stock together so that it looks like one image, not an image with a bunch of photos pasted on it.

REQUIRED STOCK CHOICES

These are all stock that I download, cut out, and then did not use for anything special. This will save you time. They are .PSD or .PNG  files so everyone should be able to open them. However, if you need all .png files, let me know.
The stock providers name is part of the file's name. Dont' Forget To Give CREDIT and NOTIFY!

This was an interesting activity. I tried with After Eden. (Sorry, missed the deadline, still having technical difficulties.)
I took a night school course, at our local community college; and, the instructor was always reminding the students to look for the light and horizon line, to find shadows and perspective. (It was after baseball practice. My Dad thinks art is a waste of time, but likes baseball.)
